Last Ice Disappearing – Swimming Season Opened! Some Impressions from Inari and Abisko
A sudden temperature change finally melted down the snow and ice, making the waters easily accessible for swimming – without the need for an ice driller or an ice saw. That is – not yet everywhere in Lapland: While this was true for Inari, at the higher elevated Abisko for example, the lake Torneträsk was still frozen last week. Nevertheless, this year the spring – or actually rather summer arrived pretty early. I experienced this surprisingly warm weather in several places in Lapland … Continue reading “Last Ice Disappearing – Swimming Season Opened! Some Impressions from Inari and Abisko”
Research in Lapland – Stordalen Nature Reserve
Lapland is of course not only an appreciated destination for tourists and travelers, but it also attracts a number of researchers from numerous fields. Short Trip to Helsinki and Petrozavodsk

It was actually quite a story to be able to develop these films .. Continue reading “Short Trip to Helsinki and Petrozavodsk”

Short Visit to Inari. Just Long Enough, for Sauna and Northern Lights.
In December in Rovaniemi, the sun doesn’t stay out long, for two days the sun doesn’t show up at all. Not long enough for a friend and me, so we decided to head North to Inari for a few days, to enter total the Arctic night and the total absence of direct sunlight. We rented a cottage in order to get some pleasant sauna turns in the frosty winter landscape, just under the beautiful moon light. And, as if this wouldn’t have been enough, some Northern Lights enhanced the basic brightness provided by the moon, to brought us most a pleasant and delightful atmosphere. Carinthia (AUT) and Saisera (ITA)
In April a friend of mine and I travelled to the southern part of Austria and the northern part of Italy, close to the Austrian border. We went to watch the sunset at the ruin Finkenstein, where also an arena is situated, where you can see open air concerts in an amazing atmosphere. The next day we went for a short hike on the Dobratsch mountain, Continue reading “Carinthia (AUT) and Saisera (ITA)”
