Spring has definitely arrived in the past days. The first days with plus degrees and wind has thrown the snow from the trees, and changed the landscape’s color. With a friend we took some Fell-Skiers and went to Kalmakaltio for a short skiing trip, to enjoy the warmth of the spring sun, off any maintained skiing tracks.

After I shortened my skiing trip in March, finally the circumstances seemed right to go for another skiing trip: Together with a friend we spent one week on our skiers in the Pöyrisjärvi Wilderness Area. With our bivy bags in our luggage, we made a loop from Hetta to lake Pöyrisjärvi, and enjoyed the warmth of the intense spring sun. Almost like a tradition, also this autumn I wanted to go for a hike in the Pöyrisjärvi Wilderness Area. This year, together with Heidi, we wanted to pick up some old leather-made children shoes, which we discovered a couple of years ago. Starting from Näkkälä, our route brought us to Pöyrisjärvi, Haukijärvi, Maattojärvet, and Stallojärvi, before we finished our trip in Vuontisjärvi.
After I had to cancel my skiing trip earlier this winter, I was looking forward to spend some time in Pöyrisjärvi wilderness area in spring, to be still able to enjoy a couple of days skiing through the tundra. In my opinion the polar night is the most wonderful time of the year in the High North, thus I wanted to take advantage of this time of the year and go for a skiing trip to Pöyrisjärvi Wilderness Area. Unfortunately I had to chancel this year’s trip due to bad weather, as the unusual warmth came along with strong winds and snowfall, which made it very hard to see anything ..
