After spending about a week on glaciers, my friend and me camped at the blue lake in Tordalen to go for day hikes. One of these hikes brought us up to Jotunfonna. While having good weather conditions to hike up, ever stronger getting fog made us to abort the trip and head back down to the valley.

End of July the weather forecast predicted more than 25° C in Lapland. Just in time to pack my backpack and head north. With a friend who lives on Svalbard we had planned to go on a multi-day glacier hike northwest of Pyramiden, at around 79° northern latitude.

Most of the time during my visit to Svalbard the sky was dominated by clouds. Yet, the first night the forecast predicted great mountain weather, my friend and me decided to climb up Nordenskiöldfjellet. The snow lasted a bit longer this year than in previous years, and so did the ice. While last week I still experienced frequent snowfall, the thermometer suddenly climbed above 20°C. This led to the rare combination of half open lakes while having perfect swimming weather. So that’s what had to be done …
