After I shortened my skiing trip in March, finally the circumstances seemed right to go for another skiing trip: Together with a friend we spent one week on our skiers in the Pöyrisjärvi Wilderness Area. With our bivy bags in our luggage, we made a loop from Hetta to lake Pöyrisjärvi, and enjoyed the warmth of the intense spring sun. Earlier this year I got a new pair of skiers that should compromise between distance and downhill skiing, with a light telemark binding. Living near Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park, I thought it might be a good idea to test the new equipment there before going for longer trips with it. Thus I decided to ski into Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park, spend two nights in the Rautuoja open wilderness hut, and used the days to ski up and down the nearby fells Outtakka and Rautuvaara.
Almost like a tradition, also this autumn I wanted to go for a hike in the Pöyrisjärvi Wilderness Area. This year, together with Heidi, we wanted to pick up some old leather-made children shoes, which we discovered a couple of years ago. Starting from Näkkälä, our route brought us to Pöyrisjärvi, Haukijärvi, Maattojärvet, and Stallojärvi, before we finished our trip in Vuontisjärvi.
Last week together with two friends I went for a short trip, starting in Kalmakaltio, going down Käkkälöjoki river by Kayak. It turned out to be the hottest days during this summer, so we chose the right time to spent on the cool and refreshing river water in the Pöyrisjärvi Wilderness Area .. While the temperatures so far haven’t went over 2 or 3 degress plus, the forecast for the next week suggests that the skiing season will find an early end this spring. Time to enjoy a last trip into the nearby fell area, and to combine that with a sauna turn in Hannukuru, in the middle of Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park. After I had to cancel my skiing trip earlier this winter, I was looking forward to spend some time in Pöyrisjärvi wilderness area in spring, to be still able to enjoy a couple of days skiing through the tundra.
