After skiing towards the South the day before, we decided to also ski a bit towards the North and visit the Närpistö lean-to shelter (once more), along the Pahtajärvenreitti. Like the days before, it was again rather warm (especially for mid February), and I had the feeling it would be some time in the middle of spring. Why: Because it actually was pretty warm (just a few degrees below zero), the the snow felt wet and not winterly, but maybe even more because of the way the trees looked like. Breaking News at Pahtajärvi: A New Fire Place Grew Over Night!
Great news from the makkara-extinguishing-front! A new laavu grew over night. Or over summer, or so .. I’ve been using the trail from Hetta to Närpistö laavu quite some times this summer, but something new appeared recently: A sign with the name of Pahtajärvi written on it and additionally containing the symbol of a fire place.

Pahtajärvi Again. And This Time Without Mosquitoes!
Finally, the mosquitoes are gone!
Summer seems to be over, some birch trees and a number of shrubs and grasses already changed their colors, signaling the arrival of autumn. It was time; the mosquitoes really took away a lot of the fun that’s supposed to accompany bike trips through the forest. Nevertheless, there are still tons of other annoying, biting midges, but at least they are not as quick as their bigger brothers and sisters. Continue reading “Pahtajärvi Again.
