Ruska = Hiking. Point. As every year. Except: This time it could have been the last time to enjoy Tarvantovaara Wilderness Area, where a mining company has reserved a block around the Hietakero fell. Good reason to experience the area, before it might get ruined.

With a friend we took an old river boat to travel down Ounasjoki until the Käkkälöjoki estuary. After going up a few Kilometers Käkkälöjoki, where we visited a friend, we took the same route back: Down Käkkälöjoki and up Ounasjoki, back to Hetta.

Picture of the Day: Last Skiing Day
Despite it being a warm winter, skiing was possible surprisingly long. However, with the last slush on the tracks, this almost certainly was the last skiing day of the season.

After some very warm days the temperatures dropped again below freezing. Now the snow is hard and allows easy skiing everywhere, even in the forests. I took advantage of the snow conditions and went with my skating skis to Hannukuru.

During this relatively warm winter I kind of lacked the urge to go for a longer skiing trip. So now, end of April, it was about time to change something about that. With a friend we went for a few days to Ropi, in the Käsivarsi wilderness area.

During this rather warm winter, to little surprise, already in March the first warm days (up to plus 6°C) result in snow melt. Unfortunately, this directly affects the skiing tracks, such as in this image, where the tracks literally start to flow away.
