After the relaxing cycling trip two weeks ago, I wanted to once again take my bike and head into the Pöyrisjärvi Wilderness Area. And pretty much as two weeks before the aim was to do some camping and fishing – just this time at lake Retkajärvi.
Spring has definitely arrived in the past days. The first days with plus degrees and wind has thrown the snow from the trees, and changed the landscape’s color. With a friend we took some Fell-Skiers and went to Kalmakaltio for a short skiing trip, to enjoy the warmth of the spring sun, off any maintained skiing tracks.
Like in the past few years, also this year I was planning to go for a hike during autumn time. Since in the past two years I was a bit too late for the most colorful time of the year – ruska – this year I wanted to leave already end of August, to experience the wonderful colors of the autumn vegetation in the Pöyrisjärvi wilderness area.
Last week together with two friends I went for a short trip, starting in Kalmakaltio, going down Käkkälöjoki river by Kayak. It turned out to be the hottest days during this summer, so we chose the right time to spent on the cool and refreshing river water in the Pöyrisjärvi Wilderness Area .. I strongly felt the urge to go for a hike a couple of weeks ago, so I decided, as so often in the past years, to hike in – or actually through the Pöyrisjärvi wilderness area. Once again. With a friend we enjoyed a wonderful hike, including the last summerly days of this year, as well as the first snowfall, which delighted us toward the end of our hike. We started in Hetta, came by Pöyrisjärvi, and ended our hike in Kalmkaltio, in the east of the Pöyrisjärvi wilderness area. Continue to the photo gallery and the full article
