From Näkkälä to Vuontisjärvi: An Autumn Hike through the Pöyrisjärvi Wilderness Area

Almost like a tradition, also this autumn I wanted to go for a hike in the Pöyrisjärvi Wilderness Area. This year, together with Heidi, we wanted to pick up some old leather-made children shoes, which we discovered a couple of years ago. Starting from Näkkälä, our route brought us to Pöyrisjärvi, Haukijärvi, Maattojärvet, and Stallojärvi, before we finished our trip in Vuontisjärvi.

Visit to St. John’s, Newfoundland

End of August / early September I visited St. John’s in Newfoundland for a week, to attend a course and a conference. Unfortunately this didn’t leave me with much time to explore the city or its surroundings, however, I nonetheless managed to take a few pictures along that trip. Carrying my dear and precious Nikon FM with me, the only images I took where captured on film. Paddling Down Käkkälöjoki: From Kalmakaltio to Vuontisjärvi by Kayak

Last week together with two friends I went for a short trip, starting in Kalmakaltio, going down Käkkälöjoki river by Kayak. It turned out to be the hottest days during this summer, so we chose the right time to spent on the cool and refreshing river water in the Pöyrisjärvi Wilderness Area .. Enjoying Sauna in Hannukuru – Last Skiing Trip for this Season?

While the temperatures so far haven’t went over 2 or 3 degress plus, the forecast for the next week suggests that the skiing season will find an early end this spring. Time to enjoy a last trip into the nearby fell area, and to combine that with a sauna turn in Hannukuru, in the middle of Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park. About a Pile of Money and a Deep Hole in the Ground: Diamond Mining in Mirny, Yakutia

Last week I had the pleasure to attend a course in Sakha Republic (Yakutia), in the Russian Federation. The course within the thematic area of extractive industries brought me to Mirny, a small city which has been built around its mining activities. Since Russian geologists have found rich diamond deposits in the Republic of Sakha, Russia has become one of the world leaders in diamond production. Also Mirny is significantly shaped from the extraction of diamonds in the area ..
