While this winter started early and with low temperatures, the season soon turned more mild than average, bringing lots of snow. A suitable condition for a skiing trip to Pöyrisjärvi, to enjoy the wonderful lights of the polar night.

After spending about a week on glaciers, my friend and me camped at the blue lake in Tordalen to go for day hikes. One of these hikes brought us up to Jotunfonna. While having good weather conditions to hike up, ever stronger getting fog made us to abort the trip and head back down to the valley.

End of July the weather forecast predicted more than 25° C in Lapland. Just in time to pack my backpack and head north. With a friend who lives on Svalbard we had planned to go on a multi-day glacier hike northwest of Pyramiden, at around 79° northern latitude.

The weather forecast predicted a clear sky, and there was also a promising northern lights forecast. Thus, with Heidi we decided to cycle to Pöyrisjärvi, and spent Friday night at the open wilderness hut.
