My friend Andi and me made a long planned hiking trip into the Khibiny mountains, on the Kola peninsula in summer. For me it was the first part of an almost three months lasting trip. First we went by train to Moscow to visit a friend before we went on by train to Apatity, from where we took a taxi to Kirovsk, visiting another friend for a few days. We used this time there to get some better maps for the region, since there are no marked trails Continue reading “Hiking in the Khibiny and Lovozero Mountains (Russian Lapland)”
Säuleck
In Summer a friend of mine and I made an attempt to hike the summit of the mountain Säuleck. Unfortunately my hiking boots were a bit old already, so on the second day, after leaving from the Arthur von Schmid house the sole went of. It was not possible to continue the trip, thus we had to turn around. The shoes were so bad, that I had to take them off at some point and to continue barefoot. Continue reading “Säuleck”
Hiking in the Austrian Alps
After i came back from Sweden, Andi, a friend of mine and me planned a hikingtrip through the Austrian alps. Since I bought a new tent, we decided to test our equipment first. The mountain “Mittagskogel” is part of the Austrian border to Slovenia and close to the city of Villach, where Andi and I grew up. We knew this mountain very well so that’s why we decided to check out our equipment here.
It was a hot day in June 2005 when we started our hike in the late afternoon with our very heavy backbags. Continue reading “Hiking in the Austrian Alps”
Visiting NYC and Hiking in Banff and Jasper National Parks in Canada
In late August 2004 a seminar brought me to Calgary, not before stopping ove the weekend in New York city, visiting my cousin. However, after one week of cracking the brain over geology I had another week free to travel a bit further to the north in Alberta. Renting a car and leaving Calgary as soon as possible, I found my self in the beutiful environment of Alberta’s nature scenery. In the gallery you find some of the pictures I took while my hikes. Unofrtunately it was cloudy most of the time which often limited my view pretty much. However, since it was autumn and the first snow just calmly covered the wonderfully colored trees, I still had an extraordinary experience in the Canadian wilderness, where I also got to see a grizzly beer with her two cups in the wild. Sonnblick & Hocharn: Hiking Trip in September 2001
In September I once again hiked the Sonnblick, this time accompanied by my friend Clemens, and extending the trip with also climbing the Hocharn the next morning. It was one of the most silent mountain experiences I have had in the alps. The whole hike up to the Hocharn as well as on the summit, my friend and me didn’t meet any other people. This fact together with the amazing weather, that allowed us to have a view as far as to the Lienzer Dolomiten and the Pyramidenkogel made this tour unforgetable!
